‘I know climate change is a thing and I need to do my bit. But I don’t know how to.’
How can you help your neighbour address climate change?
On 28 June, Housing 2022 hosted a series of hacks focusing on communicating climate change. The key question we wanted to tackle was:
“How can you help your neighbour address climate change?”
The hackathon was open to everyone – not just those in the housing sector. It brought together a diverse group of voices from tenants, students and out of sector professionals alongside housing colleagues.
“Hackers” were challenged to create a powerful communications campaign that would motivate sustainable behaviour change.
No prior experience was necessary – just the passion to make a difference!
Supported by communications and sustainability experts to help guide the campaigns, ideas were shortlisted that had a strong, creative and viral message that could reach a wide range of people.
The winning idea
On your marks, get set, grow!
#DidYouKnow? Over 14m tonnes of plastic are added to the ocean every year, harming marine life.
Locally grown produce helps everyone have access to food, reduces plastic waste, saves money, and benefits the #environment 🍅

The winning hack will be turned into a live campaign to be rolled out later this year on Unlock Net Zero, at the Inside Housing Communications Conference and in Inside Housing magazine!
