James Wates CBE, chairman, Wates Group


James has worked in construction his entire life and feels passionately that it plays a crucial role in the UK’s economic and social well-being. Through his numerous roles, he champions change in the sector – encouraging the investment in skills development, greater collaboration, and the application of modern methods of construction, with the ultimate goal of creating a higher quality built environment, stronger communities and a better society.


His key positions in the sector include: Past Chairman of CITB, Past President of CIOB, Chairman of the BRE Trust, and Non-executive Director of Argent Services LLP.

Norman Pickavance, chief executive officer, Tomorrow’s Company


Norman Pickavance has been an Executive Board member of leading FTSE 100 organisations, including Morrison’s Supermarkets and Northern Foods, where he has been pivotal in delivering major strategic and cultural transformation initiatives. He has been a Non-Executive Director within the NHS, in Whitehall and for charities helping orphan children in India. Norman has advised a range of political leaders on social mobility and unemployment, including Chris Grayling and Nick Clegg. In 2015, he led an independent commission into employment practices and zero hours contracts, for Ed Miliband and in 2016 he chaired a Task Force into the Future of the Retail Industry on behalf of the Fabian Society.

Philip Green, ex chief financial officer, Deliveroo


Philip Green is a CFO, NED and advisor with a blockbuster track record of driving change within disruptive businesses. He has worked for various retail, FMCG and tech companies over the last 20 years, with 8 years spent working for Amazon as Finance Director of EU operations before taking the role of CFO at Groupon, followed by CFO of Deliveroo. Philip is currently engaged with a number of European based Start-ups and small enterprises covering various industries such as VR/AR, media, security, software and e-commerce.
